How to Become a Facebook Ad Master: By the Numbers

One of the most effective ways to market your affiliate business online is through Facebook Ads. Facebook allows you to quickly set up campaigns with a small budget and begin marketing in a just a few minutes.

If you are new to Facebook Marketing, it can be easy to lose your shirt in advertising costs. It requires more than just choosing a product and knowing your audience. Choose the wrong target audience, and Facebook will pull your ad when it fails. This is only one of the problems you may have in using Facebook for paid advertising.

The key to launching a successful Facebook marketing campaign requires understanding certain concepts before launching your first campaign. Each of these elements will influence the success of your ads. They include ad type, placement, audience, budget and schedule and tracking. It is also important that you know your numbers. Sell the wrong product or service, and your ad may not break even.

Unlike Google Adwords where keyword research is essential for targeting your audience, Facebook is different. With Facebook it requires finding users’ interests and then an audience that intersects with these interests. You don’t bid on keywords. You choose an audience, a type of ad and then set up a campaign with a daily budget.

The first step to building an effective campaign is to know your numbers. What this means is you want to get an idea of what your ads costs are compared to the price of the product you are marketing whether it’s an affiliate product, your own product or a service. You also want to consider the purpose of your ad.

Sending your potential customers to your list and then referring your new subscribers to a paid offer is better than an ad where you offer a low cost product and then you lose money on the ad. This may not be an issue if you are building your list, and you have a high conversion rate. Since the average conversion rate is about 10 percent, Facebook advertising might not be the best way to acquire new leads unless the cost is cheap.

To build your ad campaign, you will need a product, an ad, and an audience. Facebook allows you to customise your audience by demographics. It also allows you to factor in their interests so you can target an interest that has a particular age group.

Once the campaign is in place, then it’s necessary to carefully monitor the campaign for conversion. Briefly testing your ads will tell you how well they will perform. Facebook also allows for split testing now, so it’s possible to test two different ads for the same product to see which one performs best. Choosing the right ad format allows you to lower the cost per click.

With split testing it’s necessary to change only one element of the ad campaign at a time whether it’s testing different audiences or different headlines. This will help you determine which elements are the most effective in your campaign. Understanding ad types can help you to begin with the most effective types of ads, thus eliminating one element you may needs to be tested.

Ad placement is another issue to consider. Although there are only three ad types that are effective: getting video views, collecting leads and sending people to your website, placement is much more flexible. Mobile newsfeed, Instagram, desktop newsfeed and desktop right column give you plenty of options. The most important issue here is to make sure you check the preview of the ad to insure that it looks good in that format. Photos are important in creating your ads, and you want your photos to display correctly.
